A bin from Afvalbox naturally requires a durable bin liner. We do not supply these refuse sacks ourselves, but there are various suppliers on the internet who can advise you on this. When buying the rubbish bags, please note that the circumference of the opening at the top of the bag must be at least 150 cm. The length should also be about 10 to 20 cm longer than the height of the bin.
Our waste boxes are made from mono kraftliner material, this is a 'virgin' and pure paper that comes from trees, everything is FSC approved, so the trees are replanted. This kraftliner makes the waste boxes very popular for recycling, because the fibers are still long. In addition, the raw material is pure, extremely strong and fairly insensitive to moisture. The glue is a food approved version.
The process starts with the raw material, namely the tree. A tree removes 8.3 kg of CO2 from the air for every kg of wood. For comparison: the production of a kg of metal gives an emission of 3.2 kg CO2 / kg. The transformation from wood to paper results in negligible CO2 emissions, partly because the paper industry is planting more trees than it is harvesting. The CO2 emission released by the transformation of wood into kraftliner is at a maximum of 0.75 kg CO2 for a kg of paper.
The CO2 emission released by the transformation of kraftliner to the waste bin as end product is around 0.30 kg CO2 for 1 kg of paper. After use, the raw material from the waste bin can be recycled many times into paper, until the fibers become too short. After this, the bio-industry or combustion with heat output is a beautiful, environmentally-friendly solution (whereby only a minimal amount of CO2 is released).
The production of the waste bins is clean and virtually without CO2 emissions. The only waste materials are pieces of die-cut waste, which are recycled. This ensures that the waste bins are CO2 negative, which means that more CO2 has been taken out of the air for the end product than neutral. The CO2 uptake, or carbon footprint, is approximately:
8.30 kg - 0.75 kg - 0.30 kg = 7.25 kg CO2 / kg.
Originally, cardboard has a low ignition temperature. The breeding ground for fire is the combustible substance and oxygen, which in corrugated and honeycomb cardboard is located in the corrugated and honeycomb cells. This means a high risk of ignition, rapid degassing and thus rapid fire propagation. Cardboard types with open cells should therefore always be impregnated or treated with a flame-extinguishing or fire-retardant coating before use as furnishing elements.
However, Afvalbox cardboard waste and collection bins are made of tightly wrapped and pressed cardboard without open cells, creating an extremely strong mass. Which complies with fire safety classification EN 13501-1. In addition, to complete the picture, a cardboard lid with insertion opening has also been developed from the same material, which has a flame-extinguishing effect should the contents of the bin (the waste) ignite. The stickers which are used for Visual information transfer over the different waste streams are special stickers where the glue contains no harmful substances to the environment. These stickers are therefore 100% recyclable.
The waste bins are made of multi-layer glued Kraftliner cardboard which is difficult to clean on its own when spilled. For this, too, we have opted for the most sustainable solution with the knowledge that is currently available. The top plate of the lid is provided with a less environmentally damaging water-borne coating, which has been extensively tested for cleaning spilled beverage and food residues, etc. What means that the top of the lid on which is spilled with a wet cloth can be cleaned without cleaning agents by the cleaner.
CUP COLLECTION SYSTEM
The cup collection system is made from recycled PVC. With the use of plastic we make a concession to sustainability, but this has been deliberately chosen, because this will eventually be more sustainable. On the one hand due to the system being reusable and the fact that the system can be recycled after its lifetime. On the other hand for ergonomic reasons for the cleaners this compared to other solutions. Our PVC pipe supplier has a PCS Pipe Collection System and the PVC DUBO quality mark. The DUBO quality mark shows that certified PVC pipes are among the most environmentally friendly choices.
The wall panels made of canvas on a wooden stretcher, on which several pictograms, doodle's or photos indicate which type of waste should go where. Here too, sustainability and circularity have been taken into account when using the materials. For example, the key battens also have the FSC quality mark and we use canvas which is produced in the most environmentally friendly way.
Mobile dolly's to place multiple waste bins (to connect). In the production of the Dollys, sustainability and circularity have also been taken into account when using the materials. These Dollys are made from plywood from FSC certified forests, they are deliberately not treated with a coating for a natural and sustainable appearance. However, the wheels are made of metal and plastic, which can also be recycled.
The loose lids against possible smells and fruit flies are made of the same material as the bottom plate of the litter bin with FSC wood. The lid is completely coated with the same less environmentally damaging coating as the lid's top plate.
The floor raisers consist of three bottom plates of the same durable material as the waste bin.
On the basis of the distribution, we are trying to put together as much as possible to combine routes. We work with carriers which have a high standard of sustainability.
Where possible, we try to work together in terms of production with people who are behind the labor market. For example, we collaborate with social workplaces and also with penal institutions.
